This year for Lent, I’m going to be getting involved with #BIGRead14. Part of the BIGBible project, #BIGRead began in 2010, and is has been run internationally every Lent since, seeking to encourage people to meet together to read the Bible, reading a text at the same time as others, and joining ‘bigger Bible conversations’ with people from around the world.
Each year a different book is selected, and this year it’s Barefoot Prayers by Stephen Cherry, a collection of poem-prayers for each day of Lent.

Like the sound of working through this book with others around the world? Want to be inspired in your discipleship journey through poetry, creativity and input from a range of voices over Lent? Want to share conversations with others through social media?
The daily readings start on Sunday 2nd March, with Ash Wednesday (the official start of Lent) on 5 March. Lent finishes on 17th April, with the readings finishing on 26th April.
Interested? Here’s how you can get involved.
- Buy the book. It’s available in either paperback from a range of suppliers (e.g. SPCK, Eden.co.uk, or Amazon), or get it on Kindle. (Did you know you don’t need a Kindle to read Kindle books? Most smartphones and tablets have free apps you can use, and there’s also free software you can install on your computer.)
- Don’t want to buy the book? The poems will also be published on the #BIGRead14 daily materials page, along with audio of the poems recorded by volunteers.
- Join the Facebook group, and share your thoughts on the poems.
- Tweet your reflections using the hashtag #BIGRead14.
I really want to encourage you to get involved however you can, taking a few minutes every day throughout Lent to read or listen to the poem, sharing your thoughts and reflections as we go through Lent together.
