I really like how the lyrics merge the hope for world peace, with the desperate reality of war and conflict.
The chorus is a prayer too:
Jesus, will you take the time to throw a drowning man a line.
I also love the line:
Jesus, in a song you wrote – the words are sticking in my throat
as it has several layers of meaning.
I think Bono is referring to the Christmas Carols we tend to sing and how some don’t match with the current reality of the world.

I think this is why we need to keep yesterdays passage in mind although I know how hard I t can be to do this.
